About us

Who we are

The Applied Aikido Association brings together trainers, coaches, consultants and aikidoka who turn what they have lived on the mat into leadership, conflict and cooperation skills for organisations, and for daily life.

Our mission

Applied Aikido is still little known, while organisations have never needed it more. The Association exists to reach the critical mass that will make the field visible: a global community, a shared language, and a collective body of work that organisations can find and trust.

Our roots

We stand on the shoulders of pioneers who carried Aikido off the mat: Donald Levine, who founded Aiki Extensions, Paul Linden, and Bill Leicht, founder of Peace Dojo International, to whom we paid tribute in 2025.

Who carries the Association

The Applied Aikido Association is a branch of Dimensions Humaines ASBL, a Belgian non-profit association based in Rixensart. Dimensions Humaines collects the memberships and keeps the accounts of the Association separate from its other activities.

The Association is coordinated by Christian Vanhenten, trainer and creator of AïkiCom, an approach that applies the principles of Aikido to communication, conflict and leadership.
